The Museum runs a varied programme of talks throughout the year to which all are invited.

Our 2023 talks will be held in the Queen’s Hall Council Chamber, High Street, Cuckfield  RH17 5EL.

Tickets can be purchased on the door and are charged at £3 for Friends and Patrons and £5 for visitors.

‘Local Communication Lines of Yesteryear’ by Professor Peter Enser

We are very pleased to be able to offer two highly-recommended talks looking at the adjustments we have made to our way of life in response to successive advances in information, communication and transport technologies.  Our speaker will be Peter Enser who is Emeritus Professor of Information Sciences at the University of Brighton.

Thursday 30th March, 2.30pm

‘Part 1: Road and Rail’

In this talk Peter will explore the role played by Cuckfield and the surrounding area in the transformation of public transport from horse-drawn coach to steam-powered railway train.

Thursday 27th April, 2.30pm

‘Part 2: Wire and Wave’

This talk will celebrate the evolution of local infrastructure in support of our transition, via telegraphy, telephony and mobile technology, towards the instantaneous communications of today.
